Bitch Critique 2005

Apologies to Committee and Exhibitors, Flu turned into a chest infection and loss of voice, hence the rather short individual critiques on my Dictaphone. Thank you for the lovely gift. General observations are that ears seem to be getting smaller and neater and less 'houndy', mouths were correct in the majority of cases. Necks were clean, if not always quite long enough, and toplines were good. Rear angulation, hip to heel, and rear movement has improved somewhat since I last judged. Sadly front assembly and front movement have got worse, particularly strength in pastern joints and elbows. There is no longer such a thing as a 90° shoulder as called for in the standard and we have more or less lost the rotary rear action. Some bitches are getting too big and a number were out of coat, particularly the browns, and what has happened to the spirit I expect to see in a Dobermanns eyes? .One or two a bit shy but temperaments as usual were sound. It was impossible to get an even line-up. Type is relative and although some were 'not my cup of tea' most still fitted within the breed standard.

Minor Puppy (8 -1 abs)

lst. and R.B.P.I.S . Barbers' Freelance Temptation For Alcumlow. Black/rust. Preferred the overall shape of this bitch in this class and she moved well for a baby although still soft. She has elegance and a very attractive headpiece with dark well shaped eyes and a very pleasing expression. Good neck topline and tailset. Clean limbed with good bone, depth and forechest and lovely tight feet.

2nd. Evans/Butler/Blands' Amazon You Give Me Fever (TAP) Black/rust, Longer in loin than 1st. but neat and tidy in outline with a pleasing head and dark eye but not just the appeal in expression of Ist. Good bone, Topline, and tailset and tight knit feet. Moved as well as Ist.

Puppy (10- 2 abs)

lst. and B.P.I.S. Lovarins' Mezarini Miss Behaving. Black/rust. Such a lovely square and compact outline and sound and stylish for one so young on the move. At this stage is balanced with all the correct proportions. Like her very much and all angles were good with decent bone through to good feet. I 2nd . Smiths' Remesca Jolo. Brown/rust. Another who was sound and accurate on the move. Liked her head and eyes are a good colour for a brown. Well filled headpiece. Touch longer neck than 1st. Junior (12 -1 abs)

lst. Bennetts' Supeta Enuf Alredi. Black/rust. lst and 2nd. very similar in style, 3rd was a bigger bitch all through. Preferred the head planes on first and slightly more feminine expression. She also had a touch more turn of stifle and tighter feet. Clean lines, short coupled, well boned and decent angles. Loose in front pastern action at this stage although sound enough behind. 2nd. Evans/Brynes' Amazon Innocent Eyes. Black/rust. Nice size and shape. Slightly longer cast than Ist. Lovely neck, topline, bone and spring of rib. Also moving loose in front.

Just the right size, a bitch who has substance and elegance with the necessary square compact body and excellent round bone through to tight feet. Liked her strong but feminine head and dark pigment and markings. Angles were good as was topline, tailset, rib and depth. Faultlessly presented but needs to be shown forward, not up and back.2nd. A very smart bitch in shape, line and length combining substance and elegance in equal measure. Excels in neck, topline, tailset and ribbing. Very good rear angles and these were used to advantage on the move, but not as clean or accurate in front pastern movement as I would like and lost her the C. C. today, but happy to award R.C.C. on her excellent merits.2nd. Evans/Johnston/Irvings' Amazon Xquisite Kiss (JW) Black/rust. Stylish, elegant bitch. Head did not please as much and she is a little down faced. Excellent neck, strong backline and sound in croup and tailset.
