Bitches
In my experience Dobermann fanciers have an excellent attitude and know how to enjoy themselves and today was no exception. I was given a warm welcome and thoroughly enjoyed the show. The standard overall was good, temperaments outstanding. A percentage had rather short necks due to steeper shoulder construction and/or short upper arms. I felt the lovely flowing topline with a gentle slope from withers to croup in the minority. A few super specimens standing tended to crab on the move and paid the price. My overriding observation, however, was weedy first and second thighs being rather narrow and often too steep. Shorter heads tended to have an over emphasised stop, only a few had rounder or lighter eyes. General condition impressed and by the end of the day I thought the breed was in pretty good shape. My co-judge Mr Colin Macleod and I preferred our own best of sexes for various reasons necessitating the services of Pauline Hart the referee who after careful consideration gave the nod to the dog. A quality male whose virtues I recognised so I had no problem with the outcome.
