DOBERMANN BREED COUNCIL

Chairman’s Annual Report 2010

The DBC held two meeting in March and June the third should have been held November this had to be cancelled due to the weather conditions.

Judges Criteria
We decided to review the whole of the criteria which lead to a healthy exchange of views, it was interesting to observe the various angles of approach depending on the individual clubs standpoint, a majority decision was reached and an application for approval submitted to the Kennel Club for approval.
We had a response in time for the June meeting and due to the tenor of the reply and items for the agenda had closed I made the decision to make the member clubs aware of the response received before the meeting. I have to say that I was not at all surprised when the Kennel Club did not give their approval giving their reasons for this and setting what is and is not acceptable to be included in a Judging Criteria.
It was agreed to revisit this matter at the November meeting that did not take place it was however discussed and agreed by the six member Clubs in attendance at the February 2011 meeting, a further application for approval has been submitted for the Kennel Clubs consideration.

Colour Restrictions
There are still some none standard colours being registered, representation was made to the Kennel Club on this subject there response was “In January 2010 the kennel Club announced via a press release that the registration system had been updated, so that for both online and paper registrations the colour options which could be included on a dogs registration would be rationalized to match the colours in the Breed Standards, as far as possible”.
Those of you who subscribe to the Breed Record Supplement should you see any none standard colours being registered would you please make Linda Wilkes aware of these so we can follow up with the Kennel Club.

Health
In my last report I advised that Rebecca Barber the DBC Health Coordinator was to look into organizing a health day with a number of speakers on different subjects.
A very successful well attended event was held on the 20/03/2011 at Liverpool University Leahurst Campus the speakers were, Dr Jo Jukes McEwan – Update on research into DCM in the Dobermann, Dr Lorna Kennedy – Autoimmune disease in the Dobermann, Dr Mike Gilliard – Hip Dysplasia schemes and Dr Neil McEwan – Scratch that itch common skin diseases.
Rebecca has supplied the member club with details on each presentation for them to make the information available to their members.

 Hands on Assessment Test
The NEDC held the above tests on the 20th October 2010, 9 of the twelve candidates passed.
I would thank NEDC Committee for their enthusiasm and hospitality in hosting this event, also all the handlers and their Dobermanns without them there would be no Assessment Test.
