On the 10th May I am going on a 16 mle sponsored walk in aid of Cancer Research and Dobe Welfare (Wales and Ireland).
 
Two years ago, together with my friends we raised £200 for Dobe Welfare and £200 for Search and Rescue Dogs.
 
I decided on Cancer Research as so many people have relatives or friends affected by this terrible disease.  Dobe Welfare always need more funding and I now in Ireland there are problems also.  
 
I did a 9 mile walk as training on the weekend - muscles were aching and I was wondering why on earth I waas doing this.  I then spoke to Sue James at the Welsh Dobe Welfare Kennels and she told me about a young stray bitch, probably 2-3 year old who had already been bred from, who had been thrown off a garage roof by kids - she had quite a number of injuries but Sue nursed her back to health.  She has been homed by a couple who are retired and live in Swansea.  They had their last Dobe, 8 year old bitch with a tail, Purdy, through me via the Council's Dog Warden.  Purdy died recently but had four good years with them and they had been so pleased with her.  This will be their fourth rescue dobe.  The lady left a message on my phone thanking me for helping her to find another Dobe and telling me she has settled in well and hopes she will be with them a bit longer than Purdy.
 
This makes the walk worthwhile to help Dobermanns such as this.
