Judge Georgie Kuhl

As a starting point i'd like to thank everyone who entered under me, there is a saying where you pay your money and you take your chances when it comes to dog shows, so i am incredibly grateful for the quality of entries, not just quantity. Its been a long time since i've judged and watching via social media or the odd popping along to a show once a year and having an internal dialog on dogs you see doesn't compare to putting your hands on a dog for yourself. One of the biggest changes for me has been the lack of level head planes, “down faced” dogs, shorter roman muzzle, all of this changes the “look of the eagles” expression which is so classically associated with the breed and while we are not a head breed per say it's important not to lose this.

I judge dogs on the day as I find them and when going over I try not to ever compare one dog to another however comparing that dog to the breed standard. When I took a step back and looked at my final line up I was pleased with the consistency with my class winners for both dogs and bitches since its easy to say we have many different shapes and styles of dobermann in the ring now; each representing breed type in their own way. Movement is something which is very important to me and if a dog isn't built right then it can't move right. You can tell a lot about a dog from the movement as no amount of clever handling can hide paddling front fee, loose elbows, close hocks and weak toplines can hide when moving so I appreciate you all being good sports regarding the requests for movement despite the heat really getting on.

Class1.

Baby Puppy Dog

1/1 (7) Brough’s Aniiraz Ajax The Greater; 4 month old black & tan male. Very well off for bone, already sporting a masculine head with level head planes, dark eye and sufficient underjaw for age. Well defined forechest with good lay of shoulders for his age. Topline currently a little tight but I expect this to be a growth phase vs anything structural. Very happy little dog with free harmonious movement displaying reach and drive. BBPIS

Class 2.

Baby Puppy Bitch

No entries

Class 3.

Minor Puppy Dog

1/1 1st (20) Hemming’s & Hickling’s Evalco’s Shade Of Class; 6 month old black & tan Male. Level head planes in almost equal length of muzzle to back skull. Ears well set with dark eyes. Clean neck into short firm topline. Shoulder & upper arm aren't equal at this point in development which is causing elbows not to be as tight as they could be, this may change as he matures. Enough rear angulation, with sufficient turn of stifle. Movement was good when settled but was hard to fully assess due to pacing.

Class 4.

Puppy Dog

2/2 1st (32) Merchant’s Krieger’s Mark Miwords At Mandareus; 11.5m old black & tan male, very well off for bone who is already well up on his legs. Level head planes with defined stop, eyes good shape & dark. Clean well muscled neck in to a well let down brisket, front angulation is a little more open than I would prefer however rear angulation is not over done with good bend in stifle. Movement was free and enthusiastic with sufficient drive. Topline is strong and firm, underlines are clean. Would have preferred a more level croup however the tail set is fine.

2nd (20) Hemming’s & Hickling’s Evalco’s Shade Of Class

Class 5.

Junior Dog

1/1 1st 10 Cannon’s Sacaria’s Blues; 14m old brown & tan male. Absolutely beautiful headpiece on this young male. Long deep muzzle with level planes & well defined stop. Small expressive ears set well up on the head. Neck could be drier. Reasonable amount of forechest but due to the front angulation some of this is visibly lost on the side profile. Rear angles are equal to the front ones so in essence he is fairly balanced but over all lacks the major desired angles. I think this dog was starting to flag with the heat as he lacked much drive or enthusiasm and paced a fair bit on the move making it hard to assess movement properly.

Class 6.

Yearling Dog

1/1 1st (11) De Haff’s Krieger’s Limelight; 14m old black & tan male. Dark almond shaped eyes, good length of muzzle to backskull, nose a little hooked and lips could be tighter but still a masculine head. Strong arched neck into well laid shoulders. Tight cat like feet, Good depth of chest and brisket well let down with very tight elbows. Underline clean, topline strong and sloping. Rear angulation in proportion to front, sufficient bend in stifle. Moved soundly for and away, side profile on movement was free and harmonious.

Class 7.

Post Graduate Dog

5/5 1st (35) Moore’s Tuwos National Hero Of Elmorell JW (IKC); 2yr old black & tan male, very strong masculine head. Level head planes with almost equal length of muzzle to back skull, well defined stop. Well developed forechest, shoulder & upper arm not equal at this point. Presenting a square outline, strong topline which held on the move. Moved well with vigor.

2nd (6) Brannan & Mycroft’s Supetas Boys Are Back In Town JW; 18m Brown & tan Male. I want to preface this critique with the knowledge that I have admired this boy from outside the ring since he was a baby and was looking forward to being able to get hands on and judge him. Unfortunately this is an example of having to judge a dog on the day and due to bad timing with the tannoys going off he got spooked otherwise he would have had the class. Nothing is over done with this male, everything is in proportion and he just flows from one end to the other. Masculine head, level head planes, dark eye for a brown. Well muscled neck in to lovely deep chest, brisket well let down, elbows tight standing on cat like feet. Topline is strong and slightly sloping, rear angulation is in harmony with his front, presenting an overall balanced dog. Movement was free, clean, without deviation and showed sufficient reach and drive. In a current show climate where many males are top of or over standard with height it can give the impression that this dog is small however he is within standard and very much in proportion.

Class 8.

Limit Dog

5/6 1st (21) Hickling’s Evalsco Ego Boost JW; 2yr old black & tan male. Strong male head, level planes, sufficient depth of muzzle, lips could be tighter which detract from what is an overall good head. Open angles on front with a slightly shorter upper arm but underlines clean. Presents over all square outline, topline strong and held on the move. Free and vigorous movement, I preferred the overall elegance of this male which gave him the class.

2nd (48) Stracey’s Krieger’s Lasting Image JW; 14m old black & tan male of a good size. Masculine head with dark eye. Nose a little hooked at the moment but length of muzzle and back skull are good. Clean neck in to well let down brisket and developed forechest. Front angles a little more open than I would like but balanced with the rear angles giving harmony. Topline firm, croup well filled. Movement free with correct footfall.

Class 9.

Open Dog

4/6 1st (50) Taylor’s Krieger’s Foul Play; 5yr old black & tan male. This is another dog who catches your eye the moment he walks in the ring. Presenting an all over masculine dog, level lead planes, well defined stop. Clean dry neck in to an impressive front. Well laid back shoulders, super length of upper arm with a well developed forechest. Elbows tight, topline strong and sloping, well muscled rear and sweeping turn of stifle. Movement from him was free and effortless moving with good reach and super rotary rear drive. RBD

2nd (55) Webb’s Multi Ch Protocol’s The Midas Touch JW (Imp USA) 2 year old black & tan male. Blunt wedge muzzle, level planes with defined stop. Small well set expressive ears with a dark almond shaped eye. Firm arched neck in to a very well laid shoulder, good length of upper arm and a well developed forechest. Topline was held firm on the move with a well filled croup. I would have preferred more turn in his stifel but he moved with a ground covering ease with good reach and rotary action from the rear.

BITCHES

Class 10.

Minor Puppy Bitch

2/2 1st (54) Webb’s Shalissa’s In To The Shallow; 7 month old black & tan female. Elegant head, level planes with good length muzzle. Clean dry neck, already showing flowing outline with good forechest, clean underlines and a slightly sloping topline. A Little bum high at the moment but expected for her stage in development. Her rear angulation is moderate with just enough sweep in stifle. Movement typical of her age range but already very clean with rotation at rear. BPB, BPIS.

2nd (44) Robinson’s Korifey Matchy Matchy; 8 month old black & tan female. Very different in type to 1 but with many of her own attributes who is just very raw at the moment. Stronger head than 1 who is well off for bone, with a strong sloping topline. Overall straighter in angulation front and rear but moved out well.

Class 11.

Puppy Bitch

2/2 (49) 1st Stracey’s Krieger’s Mirror Image; 11 month old brown & tan bitch. Head correct for age, level planes with well defined stop and blunt wedge muzzle. Well muscled neck going in to lovely front with a well let down forechest and elbows tight. Topline firm level and sloping, held this on the move well. Just enough on her rear angles, my preference would be a little more bend at the stifle but her movement wasnt hindered.

2nd (34) Moore’s Elmorell Ready For It; 10 month old black & tan bitch. Absolutely beautiful head combining strength and femininity. Lovely depth & length of muzzle, clean stop with level planes. Dark almond shaped eye giving super expression. Standing on tight cat like feet, the front angulation is a little more upright than I like to see, this gives the illusion that there isn't much forechest, however hands on she has what you'd expect at her stage in development. Topline held on the move, moved well with her handler.

Class 12.

Junior Bitch

3/3 1st (26) Jones’s Supetas Waiting For An Alibi From Korifey; 17 month old brown & tan bitch. Super smooth outlined bitch starting with her level head planes, equal muzzle to back skull. Her neck flows into a lovely developed front with a super return of upper arm. Well let down brisket, elbows tucked in. Strong sloping topline & well filled croup. Incredibly hard conditioned rear, super width of upper thigh. Movement was clean coming towards and away, side profile demonstrating correct footfall.

2nd (2) Beck’s Sacarias Blue Jean Baby at Bekesha; 14 month old black & tan bitch. Balanced female head, equal muzzle to back skull with level planes. Muscular neck, good lay of shoulder and return of upper arm. Well developed forechest, elbows tight in. Clean underline complimenting her sloping topline. Very correct moderate rear angulation, harmonious movement with drive from the rear. Very close between 1 & 2 and she pushed hard but just preferred the overall outline on 1.

Class 13.

Yearling Bitch

5/5 1st (5) Brannan, Brough & Mycroft’s Supeta’s Playing With Fire Avec Aniiraz; 16 month old brown & tan bitch. Clean strong but equally as feminine head, level head planes with a super depth of muzzle. Dry arched neck, open front angles with deep chest and a proportionate amount of forchest. Incredibly strong sloping topline with an outline which flows both top and bottom. Good depth of upper thigh and notably well muscled. Sufficient turn of stifle, not over or under done. Moved well driving from the rear.

2nd (40) Pardoe’s Aritaur Daring At Dobiedar JW; 20 month old black & tan bitch. Longer in body than 1 but sharing many of the same attributes. Level planes with wedge shaped muzzle. Curvaicous well developed forechest, good lay of shoulder with good return of upper arm, topline firm and held well on the move, moderate rear angulation and well presented.

Class 14.

Post Graduate Bitch

5/7 1st (😎 Burnham’s Jodaseen All Of My Heart JW; 2yr old brown & tan bitch. Clean head with level planes, proportionate depth of muzzle giving overall balance. Well muscled neck, topline strong and slightly sloping. Chest is deep with elbows tucked in, forchest present in moderation. Little long in the upper thigh however still presenting a balanced outline. Movement free, no deviation front or rear and moved with drive from the rear.

2nd (9) Caldicott’s Aritaur Cirilla With Philmont JW; 2yr old Black & tan bitch. Good head with level planes, almost equal length of muzzle to backskull. Ears well placed giving an alert expression. Dry arched neck in to beautiful deep chest, front angles a little more open than I would prefer but there is sufficient forechest giving a smooth outline. Topline slightly sloping and held on the move. Good developed rear with sweeping turn of stifle. Movement on this girl was good when I could observe it, ideally she needs to be moved faster to let her demonstrate this.

Class 15

Limit Bitch

7/9 1st (36) Mycroft’s Imidiz Lady Melody Of Supeta JW ( Imp Lva) 2yr old Brown bitch. A bitch who epitomises strength with elegance. Blunt wedged muzzle with defined stop. Planes perfectly level, correctly placed ears giving alert expression. Clean dry neck, strong body, forchest deep and well developed. Good lay of shoulder with return of upper arm. Elbows tight in. Topline slightly sloping, strong and held on the move. Rear well muscled and presented in hard condition, moderate rear angulation, just enough turn in stifle. Movement was excellent moving with reach, drive and purpose. BB, BIS.

2nd (25) Ingram, Tousent, Lack’s Jojavik Spangled Mob JW; 2 yr old black & tan bitch. Lovley head on this bitch, good length and depth of muzzle. Dark almond shaped eyes and a defined stop. Arched clean neck in to very pleasing front, lay of shoulders and the length / return of upper arm is very good. Elbows tucked in to well let down brisket. Pronounced forchest with clean underlines. Topline strong and sloping, little longer in loin but still presents a smooth clean outline. Rear angulation matching the front and having a sweeping stifle. Her movement was enthusiastic and harmonious moving well.

Class 16

Open Bitch

3/4 1st (12) Gallagher’s Izralight Jitterbug;4yr old brown & tan bitch. Good head with level planes, proportional depth of muzzle & defined stop. Loose skin under neck detracts from an otherwise well muscled neck. Square bodied bitch with sloping topline. Balanced angulation front and rear. Well developed forchest well let down into brisket with tight elbows. Moved well.

2nd Robinson’s Lux/Bel Ch Vivat De Vinko Vendetta for Korifey (Imp Rus) Lux JCh BH; 3yr old black & tan bitch. I did prefer the head on this bitch as she has a long muzzle with good amount of underjaw, narrow back skull, super clean parallel planes and defined stop. Dark almond shaped eye planes, ears set well framing a lovely expression. Well off for bone, front angles a little more open than I would like to see however sufficient forchest and overall depth of chest. Topline firm and held on move, croup well filled. Like to have seen more turn of stifle, moved out well with good footfall from the side.

Class 17

Veteran Dog or Bitch

4/4 1st (46) Samway’s Swndwr Wassap; 7yr old black & tan male. Presenting an over all masculine outline from top to bottom, Level head planes, good length of muzzle to back skull, ears are well placed on his head giving an overall alert expression. Clean dry well muscled neck, Deep developed forchest with elbows tucked into a well let down brisket. Front angulation is more upright than I would prefer but it does not detract from the overall outline. Standing on tight cat like feet he has a strong sloping topline which leads in to a well muscled rear, just enough bend in stifle. Moved with absolute purpose around the ring with propulsion from behind, out moved many of his younger competitors. BD, BV, BOS, RBIS.

2nd (37) Mycroft’s Sant Kreal Jewel For Supeta JW (Imp Rus); 7yr old brown & tan bitch. Fantastic head on this girl, head planes level with fill under eye. Length & depth of muzzle great. Clean dry neck, well arched. Deep chested with clean firm topline, tidy elbows and underline. Sufficient rear angulation, good turn through stifle and a free but powerful mover.

A notable mention to the other 2 seniors in the class as every dog able to be present in a veteran class should be celebrated!

3rd (18) Groves, Lafford & Lafford’s Lateagain Satisfaction JW ShCEx VW, presented in super hard condition this 8yr old male is the eiptomy of not being overdone. Balanced & square male, Good lay of shoulder but would have liked more return of upper arm, he has a strong sloping topline with moderate rear angulation. Moved out well with a good spring in his step.

4th (23) Hunt & Flitcroft’s Teushon Sir Hermes; 10 yr old brown & tan super gentleman who seemed to be enjoying his day out! I was informed that he hadn't done many shows so with that in mind he did a super job, In an over all good condition for his age, a pleasure to go over him.
