WELSH DOBERMANN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW 18-4-10
JUDGE:  MRS. MARGARET DOWNEY (Glen Coe) (USA)

The beautiful sunrise of Sunday, 18th April 2010 made even more unique due to the cloud of volcanic ash that streaked lightly across it, started a most wonderful day for me in Cwmbran, Wales as I had the honor of judging the lovely bitches at the 40th Anniversary Show of The Welsh Dobermann  Club.   And what a day it was!   The Club members were so gracious and it was my pleasure to meet them all and to spend this very important day in the history of their Club with them.  My splendid stewards who assisted me all day were so wonderful with guidance and support.   A very special thank you to them!     From the young puppies with so much promise to my three beautiful veterans, I was very impressed with the depth of quality.    It was refreshing to see that although both of our standards ideally desire a 25 ½ in. bitch, the bitches I saw on this day really were on the mark or extremely close to ideal which is not always the case at home.  I was very impressed with the condition of the bitches.   Most had good, hard muscle and such beautiful coats!    Temperaments were marvelous.   They seemed to be having a good time too and I enjoyed every minute with them.

The show began and my Minor Puppy Bitch class consisted of four young girls ready and very eager to show.

Minor Puppy Bitch (4)
1st        Shelton & Lattarulo’s Jojavik Bella Mafia, had a gorgeous almond eye and great expression, a long neck that flowed smoothly into her body.    She had beautiful side gate that showed off a firm top line, her good angles and balance.
2.         Evans & Thompson’s Amazon Stormy Romance had a good eye shape and color with a classic blunt wedge muzzle.   She had good depth of brisket for a youngster.   She had great attitude in the ring but wanted to do her own thing going around.   With experience this very typey bitch will be hard to beat.
3.         Cox and Chamber’s Martonburgs Glamour Puss

Puppy Bitch (8) 3 abs
1st        Smith & Bennett’s Amazon Ice Ice Baby.   Her head had all the elements of a what a Dobermann head should be.   I was impressed with her square body, great feet and good tail set.   She exhibited good reach and drive on the go around with a topline that was strong and firm.  She also went on to be my Best Puppy.
2nd       Smith, Stewart & Boncey’s Ourouse Hanky Panky, had very good bone, lovely angulation and strong topline.   With her dark eye and wedged shaped muzzle her expression was intelligent and confident.
3.         Quigley, Day & Piper’s Swnydwr Done N’ Dusted

Junior Bitch (12) 1 abs

1st        Maitland’s Supeta’s Grace Kelly, who was an elegant, well muscled good boned bitch.    From her classic scissor bite, strong, long and very smooth neck into shoulder down to her compact strong feet, this fine moving girl was also my Reserve  Bitch CC
2nd       Evans & Irving’s Amazon Kandy Kisses J.W.   This square bitch with correct depth of chest had a good, strong back and a lovely underline, a very well balanced good moving girl.
3rd        Locke & Ingram’s Jojavik Junkie Slip

Yearling Bitch Class (7)

1.         Goodall & Upton’s Mianna Tara’s Delight.  She had a nice, dark almond eye with great expression.   Her movement was sound and showed her balance and good angles.   Her very good muscle and bone structure supported a good back and topline and was very evident on the go around.   Good feet too.
2.         Mycroft’s Supeta’s Top Totty was such a very close second with similar attributes---a very typey bitch with good, proper bone and great top line.
3.         Tousent’s Jojavik Blousey Brown J.W.

Novice Bitch (8)

2nd       Shaw’s Kitado Knight’s Favour possessed a fine head with lovely parallel planes.  This fine moving black bitch was quite square with good bone and fine muscle.
3rd        Pittendrigh’s Amazon Ice Cold in Alice for Tomar

Graduate Bitch (3)
Class of three lovely girls won by
1st        Quigley, Day & Piper’s Swnydwr Supa Troopa, a bitch with great head planes, dark almond eye and wonderful expression.   Her neck of fine proportion to body flowed smoothly into her shoulder.   She had very good movement with strong reach and drive.
2nd       Reids’ Kitado Knight’s Storm.    This lovely exhibit was from head to foot a very fine Dobermann Bitch and had great quality.   I loved her head and expression.  Good mover too.
3rd        Wedgbury’s Demorgothcal’s Allue

Post Graduate Bitch (14)

The Post Graduate Class of fourteen had two bitches that were both lovely but just a bit different in style.   It was a hard choice but I selected
1st        Walker’s Amazon Sweet Sweet Kandy To Baikel, for first place.   Her lovely head with darkest eye, good fill and flat top skull flowed from her well proportioned neck into a lovely topline with good tail set.   Very good shoulders also.
2nd       Crick’s Manzart No Nonsense, a perfectly square girl standing on beautiful feet with fine pasterns had a very smooth neck fit with good shoulder layback.      Extremely good bone and substance.  Overall equal in many ways to first place who I felt had just a bit more maturity on this day.
3rd        Cox & Chamber’s Martonburg’s Star of India

Mid Limit Bitch (6) 1abs

Was a bit smaller class in size but still had bitches of very fine quality.

1st       Shaw’s Kitado Born of A Knight SH CM.  What a nice dark eye for a red!  She was a square, well muscled but elegant bitch with good bone. Her lovely feet were catlike and compact.   Another girl with a great topline and proper tail set.
2nd      Young & Morgan’s Malibray Lia Fail.   This bitch had a very lovely head with good fill and parallel planes, a nice eye with good  color and shape, correct ear set.   She also had great catlike feet and I was impressed with her lovely coat.
3rd        Burnett, Hall & Mycroft’s Supeta’s Feels Like Heaven at Zuffenhausen J.W.

Limit Bitch (10) 1 abs

This class had several stunning bitches in it.

1st        Milne & Williams’ Leibwache Sunset Stripper, was a beautiful, elegant red (or as you say brown) girl with great bone.    Her lovely neck just flowed so smoothly into her body---With wonderful shoulders, good angles front and rear she was so balanced and her movement showed how nicely she was put together.   From her lovely headpiece to her good feet and pasterns she really impressed me.  She was a very alert girl with a terrific attitude.   As it turned out, she would be my eventual winner of the Bitch C.C. and go on to win B.I.S.
2nd       Jones & Tilley’s Supeta’s Missy Elliott, was a lovely girl with an extremely nice head with a good dark eye.   Her ear set, high on head combined with good planes gave her a very nice expression.   Strong in bone and substance, she was a pleasure to see going around the ring with nice reach and drive and good topline.
3rd        Bostock’s Mavson Plum Lazy

Open Bitch (17) 5 abs

1st        Ingram’s Ch. Jojavik Gangsters Moll J.W., a typey red bitch with a lovely arched neck in proportion to her body, firm topline, good angles front and rear, great feet, nice almond shaped, dark eye and correct ear set.
2nd       Evans & Thompson’s Ch. Amazon Devil Wears Prada.  Her head was extremely nice with a good wedge shape and a coal dark eye.   She had depth of brisket deep to her elbows and very good bone.  Quite a good mover too.
3rd        Gallagher’s Izralight New Year Spirit J.W.

Veteran Bitch (7) 4 abs

Last but not least was a beautiful class of three Veteran Bitches.   How could anyone choose between them?   I was told that one was ten years old, one nine and one eight.

1st        Andre’s Ch. Arbrodin Legacy of Love J.W. She had good bone and a lovely length of neck which was in proportion to her body which had nice dark markings.  Her feet were strong and pasterns quite wonderful.   She was clear eyed and youthfully alert with great expression.
2nd       Ebrill Dolly Mixture The Merrydobe, a lovely bitch, still elegant with good shoulder layback.   Her side gate was commendable with good reach and drive and nice firm topline.
3rd        Mycroft’s Ch. Supeta’s Witchy Woman J.W.

I want to extend a special thank you to all the exhibitors that gave me the opportunity to see, judge and appreciate their fine Dobermanns.   It was a wonderful experience for me and one that I will cherish.   The love and care of your dogs is so evident and you are all to be commended for your dedication to the dogs.    To my excellent stewards  Mrs. Avril Stewart and Mr. Jon Crossley,   thank you so very much for your assistance.    A special thank you to June Piper for all her planning and arrangements for my stay in Wales although the added attraction of a volcano was not necessary.   But even had I known I would have been stranded for days, I would not have wanted to miss being at the Welsh Dobermann 40th Anniversary Show.   I will treasure the memory.   Best Regards and a Sincere Thank You to All, Margaret Downey
